Screen-Shot-2015-01-19-at-11.43.05-AM-300x120 We've Got the Power: A UPS Keeps You in BusinessWhen the power goes out, does a business really have to be out of business? Even for a few minutes?
At NEWT, we say “no”, because with each NEWT Managed PBX Business Phone system installation, it has an Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS. The UPS helps protect NEWT’s hardware (Router, Modem, Switch, ANA Appliance, etc.) and the PBX from damage due to power surges. While customers can provide their own UPS, NEWT offers an optimized model by Eaton positioned to handle the total power draw and desired backup power run-time minutes, and it will come with a new battery with a maximum lifespan.
The UPS also provides backup power to keep their business phone solution live during a power failure.  Meaning, despite a business’s electricity being off line, they are still able to communicate and service customers.
The UPS is just one of NEWT’s built in fail-safes dedicated to keeping our clients up and running even when external forces are trying to shut them down.

NEWT’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

Fibre cut: Did not see that coming…

A disaster recovery plan (DRP) is a documented process or set of procedures to recover and protect a business IT infrastructure in the event of a disaster.
That’s the Wikipedia definition anyway. What it really means is being prepared to save a business, in the event of something occurring that is beyond their control, from potentially going under. Increasingly, organizations are developing their own DRP’s for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery for those “did not see that coming” moments.

DRP’s are not just “nice-to-have”, they are “must-have”

The NEWT Managed PBX solution, due to its advanced Hybrid Architecture and being managed by us, has built in disaster recovery. Servers within the core network are purpose-engineered for multi-level fault tolerance, with multiple diverse power sources, redundant network connectivity, and redundant connectivity to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) so that no single point of failure exists.
Key functions of the system are distributed across multiple redundant aggregators. In the improbable event of any one failure, the NEWT Managed PBX seamlessly connects to a redundant server within the hosted core. That means in the event of a local issue like a cut data line due to construction or a power outage, which would take a traditional PBX offline, the NEWT Managed PBX continues to operate normally.

Right when it isn’t.
